The padded boom bag for the Solo is designed for protecting the boat as much as it is about protecting the boom. The boom can can clatter about and usually requires tying down when trailing. The padding is great for helping keeping your boat in pristine condition and has space for storing tiller extensions, burgees and other spares.
 
Standard bags are made with a full length zip so you can drop the boom in and zip it back up quickly and easily. The outer is in breathable Weathermax and the inner is also breathable, in a soft brushed foam. This means that the boom can go away wet and given enough time, should allow the boom and fittings to dry out.
